Blanket update!

Just wanted to update, since I was so excited but didn't get to post this past weekend.  Though first off, I've decided to not just do one color at a time for the last 2 rows so I've been doing purple then the black right after.  Sunday, I finished off the first skein of likely 5, and Monday I finished my first purple skein!  I know that doesn't sound that exciting but I'm done with about 60 or so squares total now, and working on 61-70.  I keep 10 squares in a sandwich baggie, which helped out a TON when I started, I just needed to count the bags to see how far I was or what was left.  Though now they don't fit so they are sitting in a small bin, (I'll post a pic later) and waiting for me in there.  The other weekend when I went back to visit my parent's (which has been about every other weekend) it was my mom's bday weekend.  I told her she had 2 options, see her combined present for mother's day now, or wait till that Friday.  Since it's so time involved I explained I knew I could have it by then.  She was back and forth and finally decided she wanted the peak.  Granted I didn't have a finished square, but I had the 2 yarn colors (though black's easy) so she could see what it would look like.  This weekend when we head back Friday after work I can show her some completed squares.  She was really excited and happy about how it looked.  So I'll post another pic in a day or so of the completed bin, I'd love to have another skein of black done in the next day or so.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Welcome!

Wanted to say welcome to my blog, my little space on the internet.  I'll be using this to talk about different craft things I'm doing and also what I'm planning to sell on my Etsy.  I'm in the midst now of planning and finalizing things for my wedding so a lot will be on that until May and then it'll be almost all on my crocheting and crafting.

I've been crocheting for years, I'm 27 and can't exactly remember when I started, sometime in Elementary School.  I started doing more just after college, so about 6 years now.  I'm currently working on a blanket for my mother that I hope to give her for Mother's Day.  When that gets done I will be working on finishing off a blanket I started ages ago but will be giving to my goddaughter for her birthday in late July.  All the blankets I make are granny square based, and most are either identical squares or a similar coloring/pattern so I can put them together.  I'm hoping this summer to pick my aunt's brain on how she does her blankets which are all completely random colors which for me would seem to make it harder.  I know now using the formula I've figured just how much yarn I need to buy for each blanket, which in essence makes it easy for figuring how much a blanket costs to make it.

This is what one square of my mother's blanket looks like.  I've been doing all squares one color at a time.  I skipped ahead with this one so I could add the black so I can show what the finished square looks like.  Right now I'm on that last purple.  There are also 180 squares to the blanket.  So it will be 10x18 squares.  Each square is about 6 inches or so, plus there's that extra bit to connect the squares.  When I'm done and all are put together I'm going to take a picture and then ask my mom if she wants an additional row of black around the whole thing.  I'm getting pretty excited to show her when it's done.  She's getting it the Friday before Mother's day at the rehearsal dinner since I'm getting married the 7th.

This is the blanket my goddaughter is getting, though the picture isn't the best.  The squares are comprised of either Red/Gold, Green/Silver (Grey), Yellow/Black, and Blue/Bronze (Brown).  This is what we also call the Hogwarts blanket as the squares each represent one of the houses.  They are done with Dark Purple around  and connecting the squares together.  I just took inventory of the squares to see what got lost in moving and quite happy at how few did get lost.  I have to (re)make the Blue/Brown squares, about 20 of them and only one red/gold.  So hopefully that won't take too long.  As I'll have only about a month to finish it after the wedding.  As will be away for a bit after and want it done, complete, wrapped and ready to go when I go down to see her.

Well, I think that's about it for now.  I've been looking at things to work on and possibly sell.  Someone had said that granny squares make good dishcloths, so I may be selling a few of those from an older blanket that I started and learned on.  I was so nervous when I started all the stitches are close and small and as I got more comfortable they got more relaxed so I can't even attempt to put it together as a blanket.  Perhaps they will decorate someone's kitchen though in the future.  Perhaps next post or so I'll show what colors I have available for dishcloths.
